In the high-stakes world of competitive coffee brewing, preparation and execution must be swift, deliberate, and precise. Through my training for the World Brewers Cup (WBrC), I developed a fast yet refined AeroPress recipe that doesn’t compromise on clarity or sweetness. Designed with under-90-second brew time, this inverted AeroPress method has become a favorite among both elite competitors and home brewers seeking consistency and elevated flavor.

Whether crafting a championship-worthy cup for the global stage or savoring your morning ritual, this fast AeroPress brew delivers a sweet and clean coffee with a structured body and bright clarity—hallmarks of top-tier brewing.

Why this AeroPress recipe works: fast, balanced & competition-tested

This AeroPress competition recipe was created out of necessity during my intensive Brewers Cup training sessions. Facing the pressure of limited time and the high expectations of accuracy and flavor clarity, I needed a method that could consistently produce a sweet, balanced cup—quickly.

The inverted AeroPress method offered greater control over extraction by extending contact time without allowing premature drip-through, especially when paired with a precise grind setting and optimal water temperature. The result is an AeroPress recipe that underscores balance, sweetness, and a remarkably clean finish—essential components evaluated in Brewers Cup judging protocols such as acidity clarity, flavor composition, and aftertaste.

This approach minimizes over-extraction while enhancing sweetness, ensuring your AeroPress recipe meets both time constraints and sensory excellence.

Step-by-step: How to brew this inverted AeroPress method

Mastering how to brew AeroPress coffee using this fast process is straightforward with the right equipment and attention to detail.

Equipment needed:

- AeroPress (with plunger)

- Standard AeroPress paper filter (pre-wet)

- Burr grinder

- Temperature-controlled kettle

- Digital scale (accurate to 0.1g)

- Timer

- Jug or decanter

Ingredients:

- 35g fresh coffee beans (coarse grind setting, 31-33 clicks on a comandante grinder)

- 180g filtered water at 81°C

- 75g filtered water at 100°C

Brewing instructions:

1. Set up your AeroPress in the inverted position.

2. Add 35g of coarse-ground coffee into the chamber.

3. Start your timer and pour 180g of hot water (81°C) within 10 seconds.

4. Stir gently 10 times for even saturation—avoid aggressive agitation to maintain clarity.

5. Secure the cap fitted with a pre-wet paper filter.

6. At 0:30, carefully flip the AeroPress onto your jug or decanter.

7. Press slowly in intervalls, start pushing down at 35 seconds for 5 seconds, then pause 5 seconds, then push again for 5 seconds, then pause... until all the liquid is pushed out.

8. Add a 75g bypass with boiling water.

9.Serve and enjoy a clean, sweet and vibrant cup.

By focusing on proper grind size, water temperature, and controlled pressing, this fast AeroPress brew allows for maximum sweetness and clarity in minimal time.

Pro tips for optimal results

To replicate the quality achieved in Brewers Cup competitions, here are some key tips from experience and industry leaders:

✅ Use a digital scale accurate to 0.1g for consistency

✅ Always pre-wet filters thoroughly to prevent papery flavors

✅ Avoid grinding too fine; clarity is best expressed through a coarse grind

✅ Stir gently—vigorous agitation can extract undesirable bitterness

Precision, timing, and intentionality are vital—especially with fast AeroPress brews intended for competition-level performance.

Who should use this AeroPress recipe?

This sweet and clean coffee method isn’t just reserved for the competition stage. It’s ideal for:

- Home brewers aiming to elevate their daily brew to café-quality standards

- Busy professionals seeking a fast AeroPress brew without sacrificing flavor

- Aspiring competitors studying proven AeroPress competition recipes

- Coffee enthusiasts who appreciate nuanced, fruit-forward or chocolatey cup profiles

The beauty of this approach lies in its adaptability. Depending on your coffee bean’s origin, roast level, and density, minor adjustments can maintain balance across a wide flavor spectrum—from floral Ethiopian heirlooms to rich Brazilian natural process beans.
